REED BASKETS - This Portuguese Basketry technique is handcrafted by experienced artisans from 100% organic natural reeds.
The manufacturing process begins with harvesting the reeds in their natural habitat, where the canes are cut and divided into bundles of similar sizes, and placed in the sun to dry for several weeks.
Once dried, the reeds are selected, cleaned and dyed with color pigments or clarified, ready for weaving into a wide variety of patterns.
On a hand loom, the reeds are woven starting with its frame, moving to the sides, and finally joined together, after which the wicker handles are added. Depending on the model, additional accessories (clasps and straps) may also be added.
